We value craftsmanship, originality and quality. The love that goes into each piece is evident in our hand-embellished collections. Among the many unique techniques that make ELISABETH YORK a distinguished brand, the use of hand dyed nui shibori in the Clea collection is highly ranked on our list of favorites. The laborious, handcrafted art behind the creation of such a beautiful bedding collection deserves to be recognized.
Shibori is an ancient Japanese tie-dye technique. While there are many different types of shibori, nui shibori is among the most tedious and time-consuming. A running stitch is pulled tightly, often using a dowel rod to create tension; bunching, and ultimately masking, the soft cotton voile. Next, the fabric is carefully hand dyed. When the thread is removed, it leaves behind a subtle Pearl Grey pattern that is both sophisticated and chic.
